i like to think about this song in two ways; part 1 is about being who ya wanna b. admitting to yourself that no matter how much outside forces might wanna affect you, the only person that can judge you is yourself. live by your own rules, be your own person, dance in the face of the bastards that wanna tell you who you are and what you can do. part 2 is about a someone that i used to know. a friendship that ended in very strange circumstances, and reflecting on that. even as i’m writing this i’m wondering if it’s all okay, and wanting to go back to the way it was. naive in a way, i suppose, but nonetheless very honest.
this is the newest song on the record, and probably the song that took me the least time to write in the past 3 and a half years, a measly 3 days.
lyrics
am i young enough to not belong here?
am i wise enough? i’ve got no idea
am i old enough to know what you know ?
am i dumb enough to go where you’d go?
me myself and i keep on moving
me myself and i keep on dancing
me myself and i keep on talking
me myself and i on the other side
am i brave enough to go without you ?
am i rich enough to pay myself too?
am i small enough wherever i go?
am i not enough? well only i know
and i’m moving by myself
dancing by myself
talking by myself
walking by myself
but i’d break bread with you if you would come around
and i am wondering just what you’re doing now
are you still here? did you go home? d’you even know?
did you find out just how it feels to be alone?
