this song is about not reaching expectations, the downbeaten feeling that comes with it, coming through it, and getting back on your feet. i wrote the bones of this track back when i was writing for baby lemonade in february 2015. i've had the first verse, drum beat, and chords since then, in a demo called 'gold' that has been kicking about for ages. it took near enough three years to get this finished, and it's a relief it's finally found a home on this project.
lyrics
can you feel it, in your skin, in your bones
can you see it, now i’m real, now i’m gone
when i’m reaching, for something, i fall short
of the sea, of the sand, of the shore
paint me a portrait of someone i could have been, let me know
give me a reason to repeat the same old shit or let me go
pick and choose, it’s all the same, nothing better, play the game
[a man has his limits, a man has his…] nothing happens anymore, i’ve reached the peak i’m on my own again
can you feel it, in your skin, in your bones
can you see it, now i’m real, now i’m gone
when i’m reaching, for something, i fall short
of the sea, of the sand, of the shore
and ill keep on moving, leave what could of been to wash away
savour these moments, you might not live to die another day
win or lose, it’s all the same, cheat the rules, break the game
[this man has his limits, this man has his…]
afterthoughts can’t join the dots, my memory is blank - let’s start again
can you feel it, in your skin, in your bones
can you see it, now i’m real, now i’m gone
when i’m reaching, for something, i fall short
of the sea, of the sand, of the shore
